Self reflection on blogging

Posted on May 30th, 2009 in Uncategorized by lordofgames

I think the purpose of this activity was to help us learn writing styles while we write about something we love to do. For example my blog is about video games but my blog had certain requirements like for entry 5 I had to use compound-complex sentences. Which usually I am horrible at doing but after typing 1 or 2 it got easier to do because I wrote something that I liked to do so my thoughts were easier to sort through instead of having to write compound-complex sentences on something I didn’t like. The reason why Mrs. Rumford chose this activity instead of the traditional writing style is because she understands how it is easier for a person to write more on something they like then chose something they don’t like and they just write a sentence or two.

I have accomplished many things during this blogging experience because it was easier to learn everything while talking about video games. I have learned all 4 sentence structures, how to and links to words or quotes you think people might think interesting. Also I have learned that when you write about something you like your ideas are endless and will never every run dry. I had once thought that writing was a waste of time because the teachers always picked what you had to write about, which is totally unfair but last year a teacher had shown me new sides to writing were you were in control of what you wrote, but sadly he left. Then next year Mrs. Rumford comes along and cares for the seed of ideas planted in our minds by my old teacher.

The key concepts I learned was the easiest way to research something was firsthand experience which was easy because I own the games and equipment needed to write the entries. Another was writing because there are thousands of different techniques, words, and sentence structures. For example you can find easier ways to fit in every last drop of detail kind of like a painting were you keep painting until you can’t think anymore and you step back and see that you have created a work of art. Also there is technology because we used to have to type up the web address when someone typed it because we couldn’t link it, but now we can just highlight the word and with a click of a button you have the link posted on your page so that you can easily just click on it to get there.

This can benefit me in the future because I never know what job I might have and it can help in future writing assignments. For example I become a news reporter I could make a blog and type up a bit of the article so that people might get interested and buy the full copy to see all of the article news. Another example is that I have to write a essay using the 4 sentence structures I could easily just go on to my blog and check my old posts to find good ways of how to use sentence structures if I had forgotten.

Halo Wars

Posted on May 25th, 2009 in Xbox 360 games by lordofgames

Hey everyone is this is lordofgames here to talk about a game called Halo Wars.

Halo Wars is a strategic game like Age of empire 3 or Empire earth 3, and it takes place on a planet called Harvest an outer colony. This game also is about 50 years before the other Halo games so there won’t be any master chief, but there is some Spartans from the Spartan 1 project.

The game starts out on a space deck of the spirit of fire’s bridge. When all of a sudden a giant planet appears in front of them that is Harvest. Soon Captain Cutter, Dr. Anders, and Sgt. Forge are on the deck looking at a computer screen showing video logs from the ground troops. One of the logs showed covenant troops running at them with energy swords flaring, but all of a sudden the feed switches to someone manning a LAAG machine gun on the back of the warthog, shooting left and right, mowing down waves of grunts. Final forge is sent down to set up a new base in a region close to where covenant troops are excavating some type of relic.

Then there are the skirmish modes that have 6 teams 3 covenant factions and 3 human factions each with a leader. The leaders are Captain Cutter, Dr. Anders, Sgt. Forge, Brute Chieftain, Arbiter (different from the Halo games), and The Prophet of Regret, but on some levels there are other NPC, like the flood or the sentinels. Each leader has special units and a power. For example; my favorite leader is Captain Cutter his special units are the UNSC Elephant (a mobile base) and The ODST Troopers that can be dropped out of space to any visible location on the map, his power is to launch the MAC Blast from his ship to hit visible targets. My second favorite leader is The Prophet of Regret his special unit is the honor guards that have giant energy sticks that slice through titanium and many other unknown metals, his power is the ability to command his flagship to launch a high energy laser that comes from unknown origins. Some units might be new to Halo fans like the UNSC Cyclops, UNSC Grizzly Tank, UNSC Gremlin, UNSC Hawk, there is some new covenant things but I don’t want to spoil the surprise.

Now the other NPC’s I was talking about. The floods are a race of organism eaters they are little balloons creatures that has a pin needle drill that they use to penetrate the nervous system and take control and mutant the organism. The sentinels despises living tissue of the flood and all its food sources so they were programmed by the forerunner’s to destroy the flood and help the reclaimers kill all the living creatures of the world. The reclaimers are certain aliens or humans chosen to live and to start over the universe. Of course some reclaimers die because the flood won’t allow it or because the reclaimer died at early age because of a war or some unexpected disease.

Well that’s all my time I have to talk this is lordofgames signing off.

Halo 3

Posted on May 21st, 2009 in Xbox 360 games by lordofgames

Hey this is lordofgames here to review the game called Halo 3.

Halo3 is a shoot ‘em up first person game that involves strategy and a whole lot of combat skills from the other shooting games like call  of duty, gears of war 2, and the other 2 games.

The unique thing about halo 3 is that there are new weapons, enemies, and vehicles. Each weapon has a unique part to it for example; the Brute shot has a wicked curved blade on the bottom of its gun barrel that slices through steel with the force of a rhino. The new enemies I was talking about are the Brutes. They used to be the middle class of the covenant, until the elites were kicked out because of their treachery of betraying the prophets. The new vehicles are also from the Brute armory. The two vehicles are the chopper and the prowler. The most common is the chopper; because an individual Brute can pilot it, and has the power of a warthog (A warthog is a human vehicle that takes three men to pilot it).

At the beginning of the story you see a giant alien mother ship heading toward Earth, but then you see a breakaway and see a tiny fireball crash into the jungle below, which leads to the cut scene where Sgt. Johnson finds you. Now the controls are the same as the other 2 Halo games, but there are some new controls as well.

The Co-op mode has been improved tremendously because unlike the other Halo games, the first player gets to play as Master Chief and second player as the Arbiter, the leader of the elites. Now I am sorry, but I can’t tell you anything else or I might ruin or spoil the campaign and its secrets.

Although I can spoil the Xbox Live mode for you, it is a unique part of the Halo experience because of their ranking so you can strive to be the best out of all. You first start out as a nothing, and work yourself up the ladder all the way to Spartan officer, the best of the best. When you play Xbox Live, you got five people on your team and five people on the other killing each other for 50 points; you get a point by killing an opposing team player. If you win you get 1 exp point, but if you lose you get nothing unless it is on the weekend special games or if you lose to a way lower rank player. For example if you lose to a Private and you are a Captain Grade 3 you will lose some experience.

Well that’s all I have to say. This is lordofgames signing off.

LOTR Conquest

Posted on May 10th, 2009 in Xbox 360 games by lordofgames

Hey this is lordofgames telling you that I will be reviewing LOTR Conquest.

LOTR Conquest is pretty much the time between the time of the second and third movie and after the third movie.

It is a very strategic game because you have to plan which class will be best for the mission. The four classes are warrior, archer, mage, and scout. Each has a unique move like for warriors it’s flame sword archer’s is multi arrow/flame arrow/poison arrow, mages special is a shield that blocks arrows, scouts can turn invisible and backstab people. Each class has a level it’s good at and a level it’s horrible at. For example the archer’s level is wheathertop and the archer’s worst is the fields of pennoler because there is no height so they are open for melee and backstabs.

The story line is pretty good the only problem is that you have to beat goods story first to get evil’s story. Each story consists of about 15 missions each sounds short, but actually they are very long and keep getting harder so sometimes you have to repeat the level 10 times. It once took me 20 times to beat the level where you have to destroy 3 crystals protected by 20 Nazguls (Sauron’s servants).

The heroes are amazing there 7 or more heroes for one side here is as many as I can remember from both sides: Gandalf, Legolas, Frodo, Suaron, Balrog, and many more. All the heroes are super versions of the original classes, but they all have major down side because they are all like the original classes they suffer from the same weaknesses.

The co-op mode is more fun than campaign because you can be an archer and have your friend be a warrior and protect you, but sometimes your partner might get bloodlust (when someone gets full of hot air and charges blindly forward killing everybody) and leaves you and suddenly your dead because of a scout that had saw that my friend had left me to go kill about one dude and because of that about 10 of our guys were slain.

The Xbox live is unique for this game because you could have 100 people playing on this tiny level and it’s a blood fest because of all the people dying because of how packed it is, but there is a down side to the jam packed battles it’s that if you try to be a archer or mage you die as soon as you respawn and scouts aren’t so good either only heroes and warriors should play in this kind of battle.

Gears of War 2

Posted on May 10th, 2009 in Xbox 360 games by lordofgames

Hey this is lordofgames here to talk to you about gears of war 2.

Gears of war 2’s story line is that the human race is going to be wiped out by some alien/monsters called locusts that have been living inside our planet for I don’t know how long.

First I am going to talk to you about the game play. First off its unique there is all sorts of ways you can snipe, hit, shot, and even chainsaw someone. There are multiple weapons and each has its ups and downs, like the lancer has a chainsaw and massive ammo clip, but it lacks the strength to kill a locust if you charge it. The only way you would ever kill anything with that weapon was if you plan before hand are you going to duck behind that rock or are you going to hide and suddenly charge with you chainsaw revving.

Anyways if I told you that the campaign was better than the multiplayer I would be lying so much that there wouldn’t be enough air in the world because of the lie. In multiplayer there are traps and different types of multiplayer battles that you couldn’t believe it. There are about 10 multiplayer levels, but I am only going to talk about one. It’s called Avalanche its trap is that there is no warning except a short vibration before a avalanche hits and kills anyone outside. There are all sorts of weapons scattered across the map like mortar cannons, boom shields, boom shots, etc.

Next up the characters, first there is Sergeant Marcus Fenix a pendulum war hero and the one that had set off the light mass bomb killing thousands of locusts. His father was engineering genius, but had disappeared suddenly just Marcus’s mom. Then there is Dom. He is looking for his wife who had disappeared. His two kids were killed and his brother Carlos blew himself up to save Marcus from being killed. Dom was 16-17 when his brother died. In the game your mission is somehow intertwined with Dom’s search. Another is Cole Train a Big African-American football star until he was dragged into the war. That’s pretty much all that I know about him. After there is Baird but sad to say there is no data on him only that he was a mechanic. Tai Kaliso a big man from the southern islands covered in tribal tattoos he is a strong fighter know not to fear anything. Final there is B. Carmine brother to Anthony Carmine who died in the first game. There is not much known about him except that he has two other brothers.

Fable 2

Posted on May 10th, 2009 in Xbox 360 games by lordofgames

Hey everyone this is lordofgames here to talk with you about Fable 2.

The first thing you notice when you start the game is that it is different from the original game. You can either choose to be a girl or boy. You don’t start in a country village but instead in a giant city. First off don’t think where I, your still in Albion it is hard to believe though. It’s because this is 500 years into the future of the first game. So like in the first game you start out as a kid going around the town collecting coins. The “Quests” that you do have a split somewhere which is when two people offer the same price, but do the opposite of what the other wants you to do. Like for example you enter the warehouse to kill beetles but this other guy comes up and asks you to smash the boxes not the beetles for the same price. Oh wait I forgot to mention something about the quests, one way is evil the other good. For example killing the beetles is good while breaking the boxes is bad. Doing bad things all the time and has very big consequences in your future.

Anyways later on it fast forwards through time so that you are an adult with a dog. Now the dog is a unique part of your equipment it can find treasure and attack enemies. The problem is you need to take care of it by healing it when it is injured, play with it, and feed it treats for job well done. But, alas you don’t and there are no consequences because it will never ever leave your side. Think about it you could leave it to die and it would still follow you talk about loyalty!

Now on to the weapons and magic, first there are melee weapons and ranged weapons. There are different types of melee weapons like the cleaver, axe, mace, long sword, cutlass, and katana (a Japanese sword). Each has its ups and downs like the Mace is very heavy making it slow but powerful while the katana is light which makes it slow and weak. Ranged weapons now here is the cool part guns can be used. There are different types of guns like the blunderbuss, rifle, and pistol but there are still bows and crossbows so don’t think they got rid of them. There are different types of the guns Rusty (weak), Turret (ok), clockwork (good), and Master (Best). Ok on to magic. There are 8 spells for magic and each have 5 levels of it (1 worst – 5 best) the spells are lightning, inferno, chaos, raise dead, blade, slow time, vortex, and force push. Each spell does something unique that can help in different situations.
